The ensemble "La Ghironda" aims at the interpretation of Medieval, Renaissance and baroque music and at the reconstruction of Renaissance and baroque dances to be based on the coeval handbooks. The members of the ensemble are professional musicians, singers and dancers specialized in the philological and stylistic research, and they work with qualified italian and foreign groups.They have performed at the most important festivals in Italy and abroad and they have a lot of recordings to their credit. Besides the concerts, the ensemble promotes an intense spreading activity through courses and seminars. Original costumes and instruments are used according to iconographical sources. The composition of the group changes from a minimum of two members to a maximum of twenty. |

The Ensemble is made up of:

The instruments: recorder, crumhorns, bagpipe, viol, harpsichord, percussions, lute, chitarrone, arabic guitar, cornett, baroque guitar, transverse flute, hurdy-gurdy, Pan flute, ancient harp, shawm, rebec. The voices: male and female voices The repertoire: medieval and Renaissance dance music, vocal music from 13th to 16th century, show with dances from the european courts.

She studied the flute under S.Agostini at the Musical Institute "Mascagni" in Livorno, where she obtained her diploma. She studied also recorder with D.Bellugi, guitar with Mario Gangi and urdy-gurdy with Marcello Bono. She specialized in the performance of medieval, Renaissance and baroque music with original instruments (recorders, crumhorns, urdy-gurdy, traverso, tabor pipe, bagpipe, little guitar). She has a large number of concerts to her credit, and she always encountered a very positive outcome from the audience and from critics. She collaborated with the "Recorders Quartet" directed by D.Bellugi, the ensemble "Nova Harmonia", the baroque music consort "Concentus Lucensis". At present she plays with the ensembles "La Ghironda" and "La Vielle" and with the Renaissance dance company" La Follia" directed by F.Sparapani. She worked for important italian institutions: Teatro Comunale in Florence, Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Teatro Comunale in Piacenza, Accademia Chigiana, Estate Fiesolana, Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza, Ensemble Pro Cantione Antiqua, Orazio Costa’s Centro all’Avviamento e all’Espressione and many others. She performed in Germany, France and Belgium. From 1980 to 1981 she took part as a soloist in some theatrical works directed by O.Costa with Salvo Randone and Anna Miserocchi. She recorded the soundtrack for the serial "Anno Domini" (broadcast by Channel 5) with the Nives Poli Rapp group (1985), she appeared on the TV programmes "Il piacere dell’estate" (1988) and "Amico mio" (1991), in which she accompanied the actor Giorgio Albertazzi in his reading. She partecipated in several series of concerts for the schools organized by the Teatro Comunale of Florence (1985-87), by the Teatro di Rifredi with Angelo Savelli (1988), by the Teatro del Cestello (1991-92), by the Teatro Comunale of Bologna (1994,1995, 1996, 2000). Carla Vaccaro carries on a didactic activity; since 1993 she has held courses for teachers of primary and secondary school. She has been art director and co-ordinator of the Ancient Music Festival at the Teatro di Cestello (1990-93) and at the Dante’s Church in Florence. In 1991 she organized a series of concerts for the schools concerning the themes:"The Middle Ages: instruments and musical forms" and "Ancient wind instruments". She is foundation member and President of the Musical Association "La Ghironda". Since 1993 she has been organizing concerts, master classes and courses with this institution. She recorded the "Sacrae Cantiunculae e Canzonette a tre voci" by C.Monteverdi for the record company Florentia Musicale (1996).
